So long, taskbar thumbnails! Aero Peek gets disabled in Chromium

Citing usability issues, the latest Chromium nightly builds have switched off support for Aero Peek. Said Chromium developer Hinori Bono, it will remain switched off "until we find solutions that avoid flooding users with tab thumbnails." As with a number of other features in the browser, support for Aero Peek is still built-in but it's hidden behind a command line switch. To re-enable in Chromium, just append --enable-aero-peek-tabs to your shortcut's target field.
I'm somewhat surprised it took this long for a command line switch to be added. On previous posts, there's been no shortage of grumbling over the taskbar thumbnails from Chrome users.
Hopefully if support is re-enabled by default they'll leave a similar switch in the Chromium code --disable-aero-peek-tabs so we can decide for ourselves whether or not to utilize the feature.

I like the previews myself, you just have to get used to it. I wish there were a separator of some sort between different windows, though.

I agree. Also, Aero Peek support isn't quite finished in Google Chrome v5.0.366.2 Dev:
1) New tabs you haven't visited yet appear blank in the taskbar thumbnails,
2) The tab at the top doesn't change when you peek at the different tabs.
Maybe people will like Aero Peek more once it is fully finished.

Yeah, Chrome needs to draw the windows when you minimize. Hopefully it will do so in the future. The current dev build seems to have some problem with pinned tabs though, so I imagine that will be sorted first. I'd avoid them if I were you.

I found this rather annoying too, I'm glad it's changing back.
If you can't wait for this to hit the dev channel, and you need to get rid of the tab thumbnails, change your shortcut to use compatibility mode for Vista SP 3. This'll get rid of the thumbnails but keep all the other aero stuff, like window boarders.

Thanks goodness. I've had all kinds of extra taskbar buttons and empty windows ever since it was enabled.

Look at this small Win7 Taskbar registry hack - it solves with aero peek previews mentioned here. With this option on when you click on icon that has many tabs/windows open, you get last one used. Great improvement for Win 7 taskbar.
Here is manual how to do it:

Thank you, and this is almost enough to get me to want to use you. I can't have thumbnails in my taskbar. I have way to many tasks open because I browse the web like I'm a knowledge hungry drunk with ADD. Everytime I close a tab on something I learn, or like, five more pop up in its place.
Yes... I do end up getting to all of them once in a while when I push myself not to open any new tabs and just learn, but I am a data intact(er). The more data I have the more imagination works and throws out theories. Damn my hierarchical thinking.
