BrainParty's awesome minigames go open source
BrainParty is extremely popular on the App Store at $0.99, packing 36 fun puzzle games into a single download and charting just how much gray matter you're packing. To share the fun with an even bigger audience, its developer has decided to release the source code under the GPLv3 license.
Want to play the games on your system? Just download the source code and compile it. BrainParty has several dependencies -- SDL, SDL Mixer, SDL TTF, SDL Image, SDL GFX and OpenGL -- so you may need to install them first depending on your OS. The developer has posted a one-line sudo command you can copy and paste into terminal on Ubuntu which takes care of the not-so-heavy lifting.
Let's see how long it takes for someone to port this to Android and bring the fun to even more smartphone users...

As far as game packs go, may I recommend Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection? It's a wonderful collection of simple but elegant puzzle games, each with multiple variants and difficulty levels. For example, the sudoku puzzle (solo) includes a fiendish jigsaw sudoku version that requires serious brainpower to conquer. Other highlights (for me anyways) are Net, Loopy, Unequal, and Galaxies.
I've found it on available for every platform, including Android. And for free!

Some of their games look an awful lot like Popcap's.
