Opera Mini 5 now available for Android devices
Opera has just released the second beta of its Mini 5 browser. Amongst other changes and fixes, Android is now supported.Until now, Android users have been stuck with Opera Mini 4.2, a thoroughly lackluster browser that really doesn't compete with either the stock WebKit browser or Dolphin. With Mini 5, Opera becomes a serious contender for the growing Android device market. Initial reviews suggest that Opera Mini 5 is quick and handy, but doesn't seem to render either JavaScript or Flash content -- I doubt it's going to replace your default browser for the time being. But give it time, it's just a beta!
If you want more details, PCMag has a hands-on review with the new browser, but it's probably easier to just install Mini 5 and give it a go yourself. If you're reading this on your Android phone, just visit m.opera.com/next!

How do we set this as the default browser?

*wishes he had an Android device, so that he could answer such questions*

Unfortunalty, this isn't possible at this time, but it might be when it comes out of beta. For now you can put a shortcut on your home screen, and copy links from emails, etc. into Opera.

You'd have to wait for Opera Mobile perhaps.

I think the only way to have flash on android is when Adobe actually releases it for the Android..

1 problem i see is something that i've started to experience in all forms of opera lately, desktop and mobile.. some sites see opera and intepret it as a mobile browser and display the mobile page, no matter if the setting in setting is set off for mobile version(on opera mini).. I can get around this in the desktop version by telling it to identify itself as firefox.. but cant seem to find a way to do that in the mini version, only way to get around that i see is to bookmark the non mobile pages, to keep from having to go and click on view full site on them..

at least on dolphin and the stock browser, the sites don't know about them apparently and dont try to serve them as mobile sites.. i'm not sure why some sites have set to interpret opera as being mobile.

Why does Symbian and WM get the fulll "Opera Mobile" experience but Android only gets its little brother?

Until the webkit browser is released in a future handheld code build, Opera Mini is probably a better choice for viewing, but I find its implementation for inputting data is klugy compared to the IBBS browser shipped with the BlackBerry.

Why is there no mention of xScope G? Better than Opera and Dolphin and stock, in my opinion. It has tabs, you can swipe to navigate through the tabs, and there's a zooming function that is as close to pinch zooming as you can get without multitouch. It makes it easy to clear the cache and other content, and has built in functionality to download youtube vidoes and more. try it.
