Twitter Tuesday - this week's Twitter news, apps and more

Ladies and gentlemen, it's Tuesday! You know what that means: you've survived another weekend and made it through Monday, and now it's time to talk Twitter. We've got plenty of interesting news and apps for you this week, as well as a new celebrity twitterer who's actually worth following. I'll tell you all about it in this week's Twitter Tuesday.
Let's go!
Conan O'Brien had a TV show, and then he had another TV show. Now, the former host of Late Night and The Tonight Show has a Twitter account. You definitely want to follow Conan, because he's doing Twitter the way it's meant to be done. He's funny, he's self-deprecating, and he only posts once a day.
If you like Conan's tweets, you might also consider following Sarah Killen. Who the heck is Sarah Killen, you ask? She's a Michigan teenager who only had a handful of followers until Conan decided to change her life by making her the only person he follows on Twitter.
Conan's already made some good jokes about his new Twitter buddy, and she's already invited him to be the best man at her wedding. With her newfound following of tens-of-thousands, Sarah is also cashing in. She just got a new MacBook from an audio equipment company she tweeted about, and she's had designers offer to make her wedding dress. Hey Conan, where do I sign up to have my life changed?

If you happen to be running a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch, you might want to give qTweeter a look. This slick little Twitter app takes advantage of a jailbroken phone's ability to run background apps, letting you pop up a new tweet dialogue from any app, without exiting back to your home screen. Besides being fast and compact, qTweeter also boasts an impressive set of bonus features, from photo uploading to multiple accounts to link shortening. Neat!In other Twitter client news, Tweetie 2 for Mac may be coming soon. Developer Loren Brichter posted some jokey screenshots from his personal Twitter account, but in all seriousness, it sounds like the new version of Tweetie, featuring Brichter's much-hyped new user interface, isn't far off. Tweetie fans, commence drooling now.
If you're a devotee of Delicious bookmarks, you can now automatically add to your Delicious collection by sharing a link on Twitter. A new service called Packrati.us grabs links from your Twitter account and adds them to your bookmarks. It can even grab the URLs people share with you in @replies. Hey, this might make Delicious useful again!
For folks who are into the idea of organizing spontaneous gatherings via Twitter, Instant Tweetup is a must-have iPhone app. It grabs a list of nearby tweeters (using GPS or Wi-Fi) and makes it easy to send them invitations to your ... you guessed it: instant tweetup. The app could be interesting even if you just want to see who's around, without interacting with them. Instant Tweetup may also integrate Foursquare and Google Buzz soon.
Our own Jason Clarke just covered a quick way to create a unique Twitter background using the avatars of the people you follow. Twilk doesn't generate the prettiest or most customizable background, but it does place the people you reply to most often in prominent positions, so it's always going to be unique to your account.
That's your Twitter report for this second week of March. I'll be back next week with the latest and greatest in Twitter apps and news. Twitter Tuesday: running for over a month, and still guaranteed free of bird puns and made-up tw-words. Booyah!

Something you haven't mentioned on TwitterTuesday is another cool iPhone app that lets you sync your contacts and the people you follow on Twitter. http://bit.ly/aQMlQQ
