Spectrum Analyzer showcases HTML5 Audio's potential

HTML5

You know those IQ test questions, "An apple is to an orange as a ________ is to a wall"? Well, HTML5 is to HTML4 as a photon torpedo is to a snowball hurled by a sleepy five-year old. Or something. If that sounds jumbled, it's just because HTML5 is challenging my notion of what HTML even is and that's making me very confused.

The HTML5 Audio Data API is just one example of what can be done with HTML5. It's an audio visualization, done completely in HTML5. It's so bleeding-edge I wasn't even able to view it properly -- you need patched versions of Firefox 3.7 alpha for it to render. I did watch the Youtube video (after the break), and once you get past the mind-numbing music and realize you're not watching Flash, it's actually kind of cool.

I just hope that when HTML5 finally catches on I'll be able to figure it out well enough to stay relevant. Feeling old here!
