TeamViewer releases iPhone remote support app, and it rocks
TeamViewer has always been a great, no-fuss way to connect to remote computer systems. With the (sort-of) recently added presentation features, voice and video chat, and improved window sharing options, version 5 of the desktop app is the best release so far.And now -- despite what my pal Constantin at TeamViewer told me a bit over a year ago -- they've launched an iPhone app [iTunes web link]. When I asked if one was coming, he responded "at the moment, we don't have plans to offer our service on the iPhone. I am also not sure if the remote screen with a normal desktop resolution of 1920x1200 pixels or above will appear readable on the screen of an iPhone or smartphone."
Well, they've done it.
And despite initial concerns about how well the iPhone's diminutive screen, TeamViewer's app works incredibly well.
More screenshots after the break!
The app supports plenty of multitouch gestures:
- Pinch zooming
- send a right click with a two-finger tap
- double-tap and hold to click and drag windows
- two-finger drag to scroll
- shake to switch between remote displays (for multi-monitor configs)
This is exactly what I've been waiting for.

A hundred bucks for an app is crazy! Not many people will buy this app in my opinion. The LogMeIn app is only $30.

Nevermind, it looks like only the pro version is expensive. I will have to try the free one out. Thanks for this great article.

Dude, thats NUTS! I was going to buy the Pro version just to support them since I do use it so often for my friends, but $99.99 is a joke. Free version for me it is.
I use logmein.com's app all the time, granted its not as on demand as teamviewer but still sweet and WAY cheaper :)

How is LogMeIn cheaper than free? Do they pay YOU to use it? ;)

I use RDM+ and it seems to have all of the functionality and speed of Team Viewer at about 1/10 the cost. (though i got it when it was on sale for 3.99 I think it is 9.99 now) Still seems to be worth $10.

Works very well. So well I was able to use my ipod touch as a trackpad mouse.

Hello Lee,
thanks for the great post about our new iPhone App. We are really appreciate it!
@ Eric David: You only have to pay $ 99.99 if you use it in a commercial enviroment. This is an one-time fee and you have no costs for the software on the PC/Macs you support. If you use it only private you can use it for free, e.g. to help our family or friends or access your own PC/Mac at home.
If you have any additional questions or need more informations please contact me.
Best regards,
Inga Kottmann

How about the Symbian (and Android) versions now?

Hi Lee,
Many thanks for your post on the TeamViewer iPhone version, pal :) Was a pleasure to read it!
Yes back then - shortly after version 4 was released - the iPhone app wasn't even on the agenda. So I can truely admit I didn't know it but it shows to me we have to talk on a more regular basis :)
All the best,
Constantin

How do you setup teamviewer so you can access an unatended mac, I know on the pc there is an option to do this by setting the program to run in the background, but It dosnt seem to be present on the mac.
I want to be able to access my mac from my iPhone while I am at work, but even if I start teamviewer before I leave it has timed out by the time I want to use it.
The website advertises this feature and tells you it's possible via a seperate download but I can't seem to find it, or am I Reading it wrong and it's not possible?
