Microsoft's European browser ballot goes live -- check it out!
How about this: the much talked-about browser ballot is a website! BrowserChoice.eu, to be precise -- check it out.
Hit F5 and watch the order randomize. Scroll right and check out the lesser-known browsers such as Sleipnir or Flock.
Finally, hit the Install or Tell me more buttons and be whisked off to the browser's website!
The analysis is interesting though -- check out the wording, with Firefox going with 'free and secure', while Opera brags about being the only browser with 'Opera Turbo Technology' (!!). Apparently Safari is the world's most innovative browser. I get the feeling the browsers were allowed to provide their own cheesy tagline...
Also note the contiguous background color between the BrowserChoice page and the Internet Explorer 8 website -- and while the other 'Install' links go to direct-download pages, IE8 tries to hook you with its feature set.
[thanks to Kyle for the tip!]

w00t! I didn't know if the feedback button would work! Also, in my testing the only browsers that would randomly move were, IE, Chrome, Opera,FF and Safari would only randomize. Its sad to see the other browsers left in the dust. even though they are still there.

Ya, they're what's known as 'the big five' -- they always get the first five, and the rest have to make do with 'over the fold'.
Not sure of the logic -- probably because those five are more feature-complete. But I'm sure it's defined somewhere.

"Safari for Windows from Apple, the world’s most innovative browser."
The Grammar Nazi in me thinks that this line is saying that Apple is a browser...

And the realist in me thinks it's the overstatement of the century

And the comment moderator in me says... no, never-mind, I'll let it go... just this once!

Funny. I like Google's tagline. Short, simple and to the point. Apple's pretty good, too. Firefox's tagline should just read "A browser developed to help you get the most out of the web." Opera should be more concise and say "Opera. The only browser engineered to speed up your internet connection."

Google doesn't need a tagline. They should have just made it GOOGLE GOOGLE GOOGLE and everyone would download it, because the computer newbs that don't know anything worship Google... anything with Google on it is immediately awesome.
Firefox should have emphasized the add-ons in their tagline, because it would have been good for them...

Opera's tagline should be "We make great mobile browsers, give us a chance on a real pc, please?"

"Opera. The Meg Griffin of the browser world."

Odd. I tried about twenty time to get Firefox in the first spot, and was unable to. Twice it ended up in the first spot and quickly reshuffled to the third spot, without a page refresh. I doubt it is intentional, but I found that pretty funny.

They always shuffle visibly after the page loads... perhaps to convince certain people it's done randomly. In any case, FF showed up first on my 2nd try....
Sebastian AnthonyMar 4th 2010 9:04AM
Yeah, I noticed the odd shuffling, but it only happened on some page-loads for me. Who knows.
I'm sure there'll be some more controversy as the day wears on... :)
hmmMar 4th 2010 12:27PM
That happens because the shuffling is done client side via Javascript which runs after the page has loaded and not server side.
By the way, the link is online for everybody to see since at least Feb 20 when I saw it. In fact a flaw in its shuffling algorithm even made its way to Slashdot on 28th.

And yes if you seem to to think that the page is biased, you can confirm your suspicions by running the javascript more than a thousand times here:

Cheers for the link -- was an interesting read. Almost like being back at university :)

This comment is dedicated to the sons and daughters throughout the European content who lovingly provide for all their technical support needs of their parents and extended family who will inevitably be dealing with the phone call saying "I couldn't decide so I installed all of them!"
