Sketchpad is a web-based painting app that doesn't use Flash
It's a bit early to start claiming that Flash's days are numbered, but there are a few of us that are frustrated with Flash's performance (and crashiness). If you're starting to get frustrated about dealing with Flash, but are still craving full-featured web applications, there's some good news on the horizon. New apps are starting to get developed with comparable functionality to Flash, but with no Flash in sight. Sketchpad is a great example of this.
Sketchpad is a nicely designed web-based painting and drawing application. It's not going to replace Photoshop, but it's certainly full-featured and fast enough for quick edits. In fact, Sketchpad is surprisingly frugal with processor cycles, and snappier than I've come to expect from similar web apps.
If you're anti-Flash or even just looking for modern alternatives, Sketchpad might just be a comfortable fit in your bookmarks as your new online image editor.

I've got to say....who and why are people so frustrated with Flash?
I watch vids n stuff with it, and have used loads of flash websites, only to have it NEVER crash...or atleast not often enough to cause a problem..! I don't understand why ppl have so much problem with it?!

I absolutely agree with you Rugrln! I open Downloadsquad more than 5-7 times in a day and it's been getting really frustrating to do so these past few weeks. I work a lot in Flash and it's not the application that has the problems it's just bad coding from people that cause so much of a problem. There are ways to optimize everything!
And people need to realize that like it or not they enjoy a LOT of their online entertainment via Flash. If Flash didn't come around we'd still be finding a way to make something like YouTube this mainstream, people would be playing dull looking Java games, concepts like Hulu just wouldn't be the same, and so much more.
Think of Flash as that one time you went out and partied like a maniac, wouldn't be the cheapest night of them all but one you'd remember for a lifetime.
Enough with the Flash bashing, seriously, it's getting to a point where I almost don't want to come to this blog anymore and I'll admit I have a fond attachment to this blog. Please keep it for everyone, EVERYONE.

I believe the main problems with Flash are on OS X and Linux, and not on Windows. Tough, this is supposedly fixed with 10.1.
Alioz: Why the stab at Java games. I would argue you can make better looking Java games than you can Flash games, simply because it has better performance.
