FeedDemon 3.1 brings serious performance and social improvements
Google Reader is really dominating in the world of RSS readers, but if you're looking for a desktop experience that has the best of what Google Reader offers, but a faster and more desktop-like experience on Windows, you definitely need to check out FeedDemon.
The latest version of FeedDemon, newly release 3.1 offers some serious performance improvements from 3.0, which was a feature release that included Google Reader synchronization as its major point of interest. FeedDemon 3.1 also includes a new Shared By People I Follow feature, which brings Google Reader's shared items functionality into FeedDemon.
You can now also filter the posts in the feeds that you are subscribed to based on keywords. You can show posts only if they include certain keywords, or filter out posts if they include certain keywords. This can make subscribing to a very busy feed more manageable because you can completely hide the content you are not interested in seeing.

You can buy a license and remove the ads for $10 and it's good on multiple machines. Pretty good deal for a great product.

$10 are fair, but I need a good reason. I am willing to spend money for great products, but I somehow fail to see the $10 worth here. So far. Maybe I should give it more time...

Wow, you drive a hard bargain. $10 for a multi-computer license for one of the best RSS readers available and that's still too much for you? You don't want ads but you don't want to pay either. How do you expect developers to make a living?

You misunderstood me. I might pay if I think the dev deserves it. (I even did so with Vim, for example.) But begging me to do so is not a good way, especially with annoying ad-ware. I can't say much about the quality yet, but this is a big con for me. So far.

It's not a very big ad or obtrusive at that. I understand that some have principled objections to adware of any kind, but I just don't see the big whoop here.
On the subject of the app itself, I do wish it would stop erasing my customizations with every upgrade. I also wish there were an easier way to customize the viewing settings than going in and manually altering the CSS (and then having to hunt for the correct line).
Still, it's my app of choice for feeds (at the very least until Google Reader can use authenticated feeds) .
