"Due to Google's open source platform, malware is starting to sneak its way into applications (...)The very nature of the Android OS and the store is very open and much larger problems could be brewing."
From these quotes, one gets the idea that the open source nature of Android caused these malware problems. I don't know if this is intentional, but either way, I disagree.
On the other hand, apps published on the Android Market don't go through an approval process like Apple's App Store, thus malware can appear more easily.

That was entirely my point. I purposely say that no one can blame Google for letting malware slip in, I'm sure the iTunes app store faces the same issues just slightly less publicized. "The very nature of the Android OS and the store is very open and much larger problems could be brewing."
