Changing accounts isn't broken. I use this plugin all the time, while switching between two accounts, and have rarely experienced any issues. Occasionally an update will not post, but that is probably an issue with the Twitter service, not Echofon. I don't know of many tools that are effective for managing multiple Twitter accounts, but I frequently use Digsby and Echofon and recommend them both.
