Universal tries to breathe life into Blu-ray via Facebook App
Good news everyone! You can now win some (admittedly pretty bad) movies on Blu-ray disc courtesy of Universal. All you have to is become their fan on Facebook and install an app. Yes, like all sweepstake give-aways it costs nothing but a small slice of your soul to enter. But that's a small price to pay: this could finally be your chance to blow the dust of your Blu-ray player and see what all the high-definition fuss is about!
And if you don't have a Blu-ray player (i.e. if you don't own a PlayStation 3)... well... er... at least you can enjoy the various news and updates pumped out onto your wall by Universal! Seriously, this is where marketing and sales is heading. It's the same pattern every time: proof of concept, games, mainstream. With Facebook games like FarmVille reaching maturity, it's now time for the big boys to come strutting in. Of course, as consumers, we ultimately win -- you might just have to sift through a lot of shit in the process. What's new?
Incidentally, while we're on the topic, did you know that we have a page on Facebook? Unlike other blogs with fan pages, we don't just repeat the same news on our fan page: we use it to share other links and goodies that don't quite fit this site! Oh, and you can see our ugly faces there too (but Lee's not up there yet, because he says he needs to lose weight first, or something...)

Death Race has Jason Statham in so is therefore awesome.

Yes, but only to hear his Cockney accent :)

So try, Death Race was probably one of those few movies which surprised me as I watched it without having heard anything about it nor seen the trailers for it.

Ah, Jason Statham!
He was in Crank right? That was quite fun.

wanted was fantastic. totally true to the comic. you just hate good movies.
Sebastian AnthonyJan 8th 2010 9:33AM
I honestly haven't seen it, but I have heard it's quite good :)

The only thing Shitty was this lame ass blog. They guy never saw Deathrace and Wanted was a good for a popcorn action flick.
You bash the big companys turning to facebook and then plug your own page? And you are owned by AOL which If I'm correct is a BIG COMPANY. please don't be so full of yourself. just blog the news.

Look, we all know Sebastian is a douche and his British grammar sucks, but this isn't just a news blog. If want news, go to cnn or something. No one made you read this.
Oh, and Wanted sucked.

You know, I've made a conscious effort to change my spelling to English-American! I thought I was doing quite well.
Well... to hell with you and your bloody... Americanness! I'm going to get some tea and crumpets while I chill out.

How did I know that the comments would have nothing to do with the article about about Sebs movie choices?
Sebastian AnthonyJan 8th 2010 9:32AM
They're picking on me :(

i liked "fearless" and "Death Race" and i would be happy to win them, but here is some more information:
Only for people in the US,
Different genre-Movie-packs every week
I don't mind to find PO on Downloadsquad, but this info would have been still nice.
On the other hand, without this post i wouldn't even have known this giveaway exists, so thx Sebastian.

The only bad thing is yes it's only for the US so we the northern neighbors are left out in the cold heh. Although I already own Death Race on Blu-ray.

Wait. There are geeks out there that don't like Wanted? WHY? I rarely post here, but I was really curious if they were sarcastic or something cause I'm shocked. Wanted was a great movie IMO and Death race was nice action flick, not something that I really want on Bluray but I'd take WANTED in a heart beat. Curving bullets in bullet time + Super adrenaline filled Assassin = AWESOME.
Come on guys(Downloadsquad) everyone on here can't be wrong. Have a heart... unless your talking about Crank 2 then I'll understand.
Sebastian AnthonyJan 8th 2010 10:49PM
Would it make you think less of me if I tell you I haven't seen WANTED and was just being sensationalist...?
I actually have it here on DVD -- I was saving it to watch at the next LAN party I'm attending, but after all the rave reviews here, I might just have to cave and watch it now!
AlphaComptonJan 11th 2010 1:32PM
Yea, nothing wrong with not seeing it as long as you plan to see it. I recommend you see it in high def with surround if you can. I downloaded err... borrowed a copy and it's really good. If it's friends you know a bit, save it for the lan party, this is one of those movies you'll enjoy more with company.
