Facebook for iPhone 3.1 gains Push notifications
iPhone Facebook junkies rejoice - for you no longer need to wait for email notifications from the service! With version 3.1 of the widely-acclaimed iPhone application (which has just arrived) you can now receive push notifications as things happen on Facebook. That's not all, however, as the update also adds the option to sync Facebook friends to your iPhone address book - complete with photos: something already found in the otherwise bare-bones webOS Facebook application.
Facebook for iPhone 3.1 is a free app and now available for download from the App Store - if you're looking to use the app straight away, you might want to re-download the application as it's currently being pushed out via iTunes' app update system.

is this going to murder my nicely organized (and gmail synced) contacts?

No. It only adds information (and pictures, if you allow it) to contacts that your iPhone has in common with Facebook. It doesn't add your whole Facebook friends list to your iPhone.

I thought this app was pretty good until it started messing up my contacts. It has made my god mother look like a very random person in my contacts. Check this out, it's really weird: http://bit.ly/7Js4su
