Synaptics Scrybe turns your touchpad into an app launcher
Synaptics is launching a new application called Scrybe that works with Synaptics touchpads that support multi-touch gestures. Basically, these touchpads are already able to perform gestures such as pinching to zoom or using multiple fingers to scroll. But Scrybe adds a series of user-customizable gestures that you can use to perform actions such as:
- Launch an application
- Visit a web page
- Search for selected text using a search engine
- Cut/paste/copy
- Control playback in media players
- Rotate, crop, tag,or rate images
- Perform Windows system functions
Scrybe is available as a firmware update for Synaptics Gesture Suite 9.4. The company is targeting it at OEMs that could include the new features on upcoming laptop models. But if you have supported hardware you can download the beta today.

If it is a Synaptics touchpad you already can do many of these things. Go into the device settings and then Settings to enable tap zones, assign options to each corner of the pad.
