Stupid Windows 7 trick: unlock the secret God Mode folder

Well, for starters, it's not really a mode. And it's nothing you need to be a deity to pull off, either.
Rather, it's a folder packed with shortcuts to just about every settings change and administrative function in Windows 7. Everything you'll find in the Action Center, Backup and Restore, Autorun, Desktop Gadgets, Devices and Printers -- it's all there. All dumped in one central location for easy access.
No, this trick doesn't involve entering IDDQD in the run box - but it's just about that simple. Here's the magic, as provided by the guys at Windows 7 Themes:
- Create a new folder anywhere (I set mine up in d:\)
- Rename the folder and paste in the following text: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Still, it's a pretty long list of things to remember - so having a nice reference like this could actually be useful from time to time.

That's pretty damn awesome.

what commands exactly do you use?
I'm hopeless when it comes to command prompt, and I can't access my own profile now.

You can name it to anything it doesn't need to be "GodMode." You can change the text in front of the dot to any thing you like eg.
Shortcut.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Yeah, but its just more fun to name it GodMode. Makes it sound more nifty than it actually is.

I always try these tricks at my own risk, so let me warn you before you do the same stupid thing I did:
I'm using Windows Vista 64x Home Premium and created this GodMode folder directly on my desktop.. terrible f# mistake.
Windows explorer crashed in an instant and I couldn't do anything else to undo the damage.
I had to restart windows in command line safe mode and manually rename and erase that directory / folder.
Now it's working fine. You've been warned.

Perhaps maybe it screwed your PC up as this is designed for Windows 7 and not Vista....maybe....
master811Jan 3rd 2010 4:58PM
Edit: never mind this will work fine just that it has known problems with the 64bit versions of Vista/7.

I'm running Ultimate x64 on my system...no troubles yet.
Though, as I mentioned, I pretty much always use the search box anyway.

OMG..I did the same thing...Explorer completely messed up and went into a loop of no return...Thank God for Dos...

It'd be easy to just run Linux, mount the NTFS partition, and delete it from there. While you're at it, maybe just delete the whole partition and put something actually worthwhile there, like a massive swap partition, your computer would get more use out of that. Linux doesn't give a crap about Windows's, many FS bugs.

It was discovered in Windows Vista called Master Control Panel… When I didn’t have blog….and posted on various Windows Forums.

Hi Lee! GodMode was only "a term" for my blogpost on 12/12:

Either way, Caschy, it's awesome! Doom references always take me back to Freshman year and null-modem deathmatches.
...And thanks for pointing me to your post!

Yes, it WORKS for Vista... no restart needed!

Windows sure is intuitive.

I went ahead and stowed this away in a folder along with shortcuts renamed to sv_cheats 1, noclip, and god, just so I can pretend. Much more fun typing this into the search than whatever I'm looking for.

I just fell over something else new today. Maybe it's its in Vista, but it certainly wasn't in XP or Server 2003.
I've got a bunch of subdirectories, Old C, Old D, Old E, Old Data, Old System (don't ask...).
I just typed in cd old e
And it went into Old E, no quotes needed!
cd finally knows that everything I type in is one subdirectory!
Now if I could get the old NT style of cd ... and cd .... working...
Yeah, it works in Powershell (at least using the extension I have loaded...)

I'm hoping with godmode enabled I'll be able to camp on the recycle bin and head shot spam as it comes in.
