Safety Light: not just another iPhone flashlight
When the iPhone app store first launched, a few types of apps multiplied to the point where it became a joke. Who needs another tip calculator? Another fart app? Another stupid flashlight? Well, Safety Light is more than just a white screen at maximum brightness. it takes the concept of the iPhone flashlight to a whole new level. I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise, considering that the Iconfactory's Craig Hockenberry, creator of Twitterrific, is behind it.
What Hockenberry has done with the flashlight is actually pretty inspiring. Color, brightness, and flashing interval are all adjustable. Unlike most basic flashlights, this one might actually be able to get a rescuer's attention. I'm going to level with you, though: I'm certainly no outdoorsman, and I didn't shell out my 99 cents for my own personal safety.
I bought Safety Light for one reason: DISCO MODE.
That's right: you can turn Safety Light into a strobe light that flashes all 9 of its colors. As you'd expect from the Iconfactory, the apps details are all perfect: when you open or close the settings, the screen flips over in an animation that reveals some batteries underneath. There was clearly a lot of care put into this little 99-cent app. So, if you're actually considering spending money on - ugh, I know - a flashlight, make it this one.

If I recall, no official AppStore flashlight can actually turn on maximum brightness.... they're limited to whatever your brightness slider is at.
Also, there are other colored strobing effect flashlights... John Haney Software's "Flashlight." and doapp inc's "myLite Flashlight" both come immediately to mind, and they're both free on the AppStore.
