Firefox 3.5 passes IE7 as most popular web browser
We've all been watching the browser share trends for quite some time now, wondering when the day would come that an alternative finally shoved Internet Explorer off its perch.
It's finally happened - at least when we're talking about the most popular single version of a browser. You can see it all in the bar graph above: Firefox 3.5 has dethroned Internet Explorer 7.
Yes, we can all see the other two lengthy bars below IE7. Add them up, and it still means Internet Explorer (6,7, and 8 combined) is more popular overall. Still, for anything to overtake IE anywhere is pretty dang impressive.
We've still got 10 days left in 2009 to see where things wind up, but there's no denying that this has been a good year for Mozilla.

This is a bit misleading - it's a very limited time range. For starters, it says 'W50 to W51 09' as the time range. Just going directly to StatCounter's global stats site, the FF 3.5 vs IE7 battle is neck and neck for Dec 09. Also, this is only for statcounter users - while a very sizable sample, I doubt it's without its margin of error.
Not that there's anything wrong with Firefox, but there's a lot more data that would probably put this in perspective.

Statistics misleading you say? :O Why I never hoird such a thing. No one would manipulate statistics to massage the truth surely. I won't hear any of it. Firefox is the new king of browser land and the Red Panda that Firefox is based on is just soo cute. I rest my case.

Still the greatest evolution goes to Google Chrome whitch is under FF3.0 and over Safari and Opera. So the crown goes to Google Chrome. BTW I use FF and ocassionaly Chrome for Google Reader and other google apps it works better :P
