Skinning the Fox just got easier: Personas 2.0
Hot on the heels of Personas 1.0, released back in April, Mozilla Labs have just released the first major update: Personas 2.0! As Lee pointed out during the initial launch, it's now even easier to make an ugly Firefox.
Personas themselves might in some case be butt-ugly, but damn the Mozilla Labs site is beautiful. But other than a pretty website... there isn't a whole lot new to report. You can search and add favourites now, and there's also 'popular' and 'just added' filters that allow you to discover new and/or interesting personas.
The press release also highlights the vast amount of choice: they reckon the'll have 40,000 designs by the end of the year! Wow. How many of those are actually worth using? You decide. They're also looking for people to help with localization, for the Personas website itself, to help non-English speakers uglify their Firefox.
There's an introductory video, if you've never used Personas before, after the break.

Potentially cool, except much like the Google Chrome designs, they all look like crap. :p

Yeah, I noticed the same thing -- that screenshot was taken with the Firefox Beta. Neat :)

I like the way personas look. Even if they do absolutely nothing. By the way anyone think its cool how easy it is to switch personas?

Are you giggling as you wiggle your mouse all over a page of personas...?

Yep. Just dropped my mouse!

I like Personas on Windows. I use the "Gray and Black" Persona with Aero set black and as dark as possible. It actually looks pretty good. On Firefox for Mac, however, Personas is a trainwreck. It would be nice if it actually applied the Persona to the title bar, as well. The title bar sticks out like a sore thumb.

I must admit I have installed this on 3 separate occasions and uninstalled it again shortly afterwards. The words 'tacky' & 'gawdy' spring to mind...
