There is now a Google Dictionary
For some reason, the Google Dictionary and all its beautiful splendor has been very quietly released. There doesn't seem to be an official blog post anywhere -- just a smattering of news sources reporting it. I have no idea why they're not shouting it from the roof-tops though: Google Dictionary is great! It's minimalist and clean, as you would expect -- and there are no ads! Just definitions, related phrases and different definitions/contexts from around the Web. Lovely.
Eventually, the Internet will be Google, but while they keep churning out the goodies, the actual change-over in ownership will probably pass us by. There are none so blind as those that will not see...

and then, when you let your guard down.. BAM!!! "unobtrusive" ads in between definitions... and google starts their own US mint!!!

I'm sure everyone's been using Google's "Dictionary" through their keyword searches... Now they have a dedicated portal.. Maybe that's why Google didn't make a big fuss about it :P

I must've missed this 'inline dictionary' that people are talking about. The dictionary thing in the top right corner was usually to Dictionary.com, rather than some Google dictionary?

I think now, that Google doesn't want to rule the world, but rather just the internet....which effectively is the world of the future

I would gladly pay money for an ad-free google though. The thing is though, although they get chump change from each person from advertising, the money comes in big collected chunks from their clients. If they were aiming for the same revenue from their users, it would clearly be far more intensive work getting the money, and for it to be worth their while, you'd have to pay more.

Google dictionary has been available for quite some time. This is just a big update as it used to be inline with regular searches.

I have been using the google search 'define:keyword' for years, I think easily 10+ times a week. It's been one of the most useful things about google if you ask me.

Just ran a few rare words. When Google said 'be' is not in the English dictionary, that might be an indication of why there has been no ballyhoo.

There have been free dictionaries on the web almost as long as there has been a web, why would Google doing it be newsworthy or, frankly, of any particular interest to much of anyone?
Personally I'll keep using the web dictionary I've been using for years now, I suspect most people will do the same.

Awesome. Just replaced dictionary.com with this as the dictionary keyword search in Chrome. Now they just need a thesaurus!

Strange, I thought everyone knew about this page. I made a Firefox Search Engine for Google's Dictionary probably close to a year ago. Search the Mycroft Project for Google Dictionary and you'll see the search plugin. Enjoy.

google already had a dictionary...
just type "define: (word)" into the search. not as well put together as this new dictionary, but still.
is it just me or is google primed for an evil megacorporation type takeover next year?

I hate google and love it all at the same time. I can't help but use the things they develop. However, we should keep an eye on them.
The DNS thing...
I definitely wont be partaking of that any time soon.
