Foobar2000 v1.0 Beta -- holy crap, it's finally here!

Foobar2000, if you were wondering, is a very light-weight music player. It's incredibly flexible thanks to its modular design and fully-featured developer kit. There are mods and plug-ins for Foobar that make it one of the most useful music players: if you're the kind of music buff that likes downloading 'quadrophonic gold remastered' albums in AC3 format from Torrent sites, then Foobar is the music player for you. If you have a large MP3 (or FLAC, AAC, MP4...) music collection and simply want to listen to it, Foobar is also the one for you.
There's all the usual functionality there too, like ripping CDs or fixing ID3 tags. My personal favourite is the keyboard shortcuts that you can set to work globally -- so even if you're playing a game like World of Warcraft, you can skip and pause your music using a finger-breaking keyboard shortcut. Handy. There's also a neat Windows 7 shell integration plugin, if you're fortunate enough to be using Foobar2000 AND Windows 7!
If you're one of those old boring types that's still using the antiquated WinAmp, or you're using the slow-and-disgustingly-bloated iTunes, give Foobar2000 a go -- you'll be surprised at just how good it is.
Official download (torrent) / MajorGeeks direct download (seems link was broken -- fixed now)

Call me crazy, but Winamp ClassicPro (Insomnis v2 skin) Win7Taskbar = AWESOME.

absolutely - I've just come back to winamp and settled on a nice black Insomnis, the Win7 taskbar goodness and DFX.
Serious stuff!

Winamp + Ebonite 2.0 in compact narrow mode always on top = WIN

For me the fact that foobar2k does not support MTP to any extent and won't do so by choice of the devs is a deal breaker to me, auto sync of downloaded podcasts is something in winamp that means a lot to me.
And... there, that is something else foobar lacks, pod catching. (i know that there is a plugin but it does not work with the latest version and the dev effort behind it has probably died, a usual problem with 3rd party)
For me foobar is just too simple for its own good.

*auto sync to my mp3 player, sry :D

I hadn't thought about auto-sync -- long time since I used my iPod. Figured everyone still used iTunes or something :)
That is a big bit of functionality that would be nice!

I've tried foobar multiple times, but even now, nothing matches the easy functionality of Winamp for me. It's not bloated like iTunes, it doesn't take endless installing of plugins and hassling with arcane menus to make it look nice like foobar, it just works.

Have used foobar for years, as it has always just worked.
Hated the winamp way of doing things (Sorry winamp people :D)
I was very dissapointed after the new shell was introduced in 0.9.4.5
Loved the old very simple shell.

I'm surprised there's no plug-in that can return the original shell :)

Trout music player - http://skwire.dcmembers.com/wb/pages/software/trout.php is also decent. Light weight, has customizable global keyboard shortcuts and pretty fast.

After using foobar2000 for a few years from being a winamp user i can find foobar2000 to be so much better.
The main function i enjoy immensely is the no gap between songs at all and the great buffer size. Its got themes, and it just does what i want it to do out of the box. Set the media library to scan my mp3 directory and thats about it

I miss my old friend Foobar now that I've crossed over into OSX. Can someone bring it into our world, please?!?

Way to go open source community.
Why you were out living in a cryogenic pod other music management programs have either surpassed you and made life easier for music connoisseurs.
Really why do they even bother putting out this garbage?
All I remember from using this years ago was a buggy outdated player with no features not available in other players.
mediamonkey for the win!!!

I was a winamp user for a long time. Didn't even dream of using anything else. Then my music collection started growing (I'm the sort who has to have the complete works of an artist that I like..) and winamp started lagging on me, to the point where it wouldn't even play. I have since tried other players on the 'market' but fb has proved to be the best one so far.
It's simple and basic. And I love it.
I mean, who needs a fancy looking player when you're just going to have it in the background/taskbar all the time?
