Ask DLS: Now that you've seen Chrome OS do you still care?
As you'd expect from a "browser OS," Google pretty much admits that Chrome OS isn't really intended for offline use. They see devices running Chrome as a compliment to the existing systems in your home or office. Local storage? That's not really part of the big picture either. Everything you save heads straight for the cloud.
And Google's staunch "no third party apps" stance means that no, you won't be running Firefox on Chrome OS. Google doesn't want other apps playing in their sandbox, it would seem.
Personally, it looks like I'll enjoy playing with Chrome OS but I can't see myself relying on it for day-to-day computing. I'd prefer to at least run a lightweight but fuller-featured linux distribution like xPud or Crunchbang where I have more flexibility.

Sounds like something that belongs more on a phone.
Then again, call me old fashion, but I am not sold on the Cloud concept yet. Feels like a fad that will blow over in a couple years.

Sounds promising, but only for my netbook.. there's no way in hell I will use this for my desktop (just in case BIG G decided to used this on PC in the future)

Sorta cared before, was at least interested in how they wanted to change up the OS, now though, not in the slightest. Having no centralized storage for all these web apps we're supposed to be using runs contrary to the way my brain works, along with a variety of other issues I don't care to to get "accustomed" to, even for netbooks.

They've released the source, so like Chromium I expect someone will port Chrome OS to a more general (and probably slower-booting) kernel, sooner rather than later.
In fact, the source release is already named Chromium OS, with support from Ubuntu sugar-daddy Canonical. See http://blog.internetnews.com/skerner/2009/11/google-chrome-goes-open-source.html
Slowly but surely, the thin client concept is coming back. Just in time to give network engineers more work! :D

I have one of those motherboards with a quick boot linux partion built in, I would love to replace it with chrome OS.

I guess I don't really see the point. Why not just use Chrome browser on a more open operating system? I can't even see using this on a netbook unless you have it connected through a cellular provider. It comes across looking more like the iPhone's OS than a Windows 7 or a light Linux distro. Hard to come up with a scenario that makes this seem more desirable than what we already have available to us.
Unless it's free? Did I miss that part?

I was curious but now am not interested at all. I code & want to compile stuff on my computer. Also, people in Google are building stuff for a world which atm is not seamlessly connected. Yes, its good that they are building stuff for the future but current infrastructure does not support their version of utopia in which everything is connected to the Internet and everybody uses Google to search. Majority of the people I know are not connected to the Internet all the time. Also, this vision of theirs is premature IMHO but then again they have some very smart people in Google and they perhaps have knowledge most of us are not privy to.

Not as much. If anything, its nice to know that those features will port over to regular Chrome.

Disappointed. I'd rather have Ubuntu Netbook/Moblin, and the included Ubuntu One service. It far more powerful, and allows me to have ALL of my data offline for when there isn't an Internet connection. I was hoping it would support the Android Market.

Nope, don't really care about Web Applications. Don't really like Chrome Browser. Chrome OS is a bad move in my mind.
