Thanks to Phil for the update!
Also, don't bother downloading this ISO if you don't have a valid student-only product key. You'll probably be able to install it, but your key won't activate the OS.
Your product key MUST MATCH the version you install. A Pro key will not activate a Home Premium install.
Once you download the disc, just open the ISO with your favorite burning software and burn it to a DVD - or drop it on a 4GB or larger USB drive using Microsoft's free utility.

Is there any reason why I should get the x86 over the x64?
Will I still be able to run all my apps using x64?

You'll mostly be able to run your x86 apps in x64. There maybe one or two gotchas, though. Really, the question is, do you see yourself using more than 3.5 Gigs of RAM? If yes, go 64; the problems aren't that bad. If not, stay 32; 64 actually requires a bit more upfront RAM (and HDD space, I believe).
Another gotcha, you can't do the in-place "move my apps and files" upgrade from 32bit to 64bit. You'll have to re-install everything.

Is the home-premium x86 link working in the updated section...I think I had downloaded it earlier and it didn't work out...and so I had done the custom install...stupidly formatted my drive...
Will I have to reinstall vista to run the upgrade from that link? or can i just do it straight off the bat? thank you for this article by the way, and the links...was really frustrating talking to microsoft support for 2 hours this morning and then not being able to find any contact info for digital river (those scumbags!)

I can't get this download to go past 20 or 30 mb. Is this supposed to happen?
Please help!

I downloaded this for a friend and burned it for him since he doesn't have any blank DVD's and I do so I will give this to him tomorrow and just to be 100% specific, this ONLY works for students that bought their $30 product right? Also the product key can only work with the key provided to the student in their ordering statement am I right on this? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Man I really wish they would give us a torrent to download these from. When the hell will the big corporations embrace torrents as proper download options. Anybody know where I can get a torrent for the x64 Home Premium?

These links are rubbish and do not work. Can barely get past 40mb before it just stops downloading.

Could someone post the MD5 checksums for the iso files?
I'm downloading the two Pro isos using a multipart download manager and would like to check that they aren't corrupted before I begin installing.
I can verify them once I've finished downloading.
