Scott's GMail Alert is a kick-ass GMail, Google Calendar, and RSS notifier

Plenty of apps will give you a simple tap on the shoulder when new mail arrives arrives in your GMail inbox. There's GMail Assistant, GMail Notifier, GMail Notifier Plus, and of course Google offers their own app.

Today's entrant into the battle for GMail notification supremacy -- Scott's Gmail Alert -- has a lot going for it. Way more than just the fact that it doesn't use the word notifier in its name.

SGA can check up to five different GMail accounts including those in your Google Apps domains. Set custom color for your accounts and create as many as ten special alerts to make sure emails from VIPs stand out. Font settings can also be customized, and Aero Glass is supported on Windows 7 and Vista.

Want more? You're also able to compose quick messages right from the SGA tray icon. Need to attach a file? The app can handle that as well. You can also send a quick reply from any alert that appears by clicking the reply icon. As you receive alerts, SGA quietly builds up a contact list from the senders' addresses - which makes sending messages from the tray app even easier.

But the alerts don't stop there. SGA can also keep you abreast of upcoming events on your Google Calendar and up to three others. You can also receives new stories from the top categories at Google News and an additional location of your choice.

Scott's GMail Alert is a free download and runs on Windows XP, Vista, and WIndows 7. Be sure to read the author's note (just above the comments on his page) regarding XP SP2 or earlier or you may experience some display problems.
