Apple has released another iPhone software update, version 3.1.2, that offers bug fixes, but no flashy new features. You can get it now by plugging in your iPhone and clicking "Check for Updates" in iTunes. Here's Apple's list of what's fixed in this update:
- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone not to wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video stream
Almost 250MB seems like a pretty big update for a few bug fixes, and it's hard to tell what other improvements might be going on behind the scenes. New versions of iPhone OS generally ruin jailbreaking, so you might want to avoid updating your jailbroken phone until you know there's a way to make it work under 3.1.2. According to
iPhoneHacks, 3.1.2 also updates the carrier settings for US iPhone users who are on AT&T - no word yet on how this affects potential tethering hacks, but I'm guessing it breaks them.

I can't wait to install this on my iTouch. Ever since I installed 3.1 it's been very glitchy. It locked up completely on me for the first time the other day (had to do the thing where you hold down both buttons). It's also had this weird problem (that others online have had as well) where after syncing, the iTouch shows that it is empty (no music, podcasts, nothing), yet iTunes shows it as full. The only way to fix it is to resync (which only takes a second, since all of the data is still on the device). Not a hard fix, but very annoying when I get in the car in the morning only to find my device unusable until I sync it again.

There's no such thing as a "patch" for iPhone and iPod updates. You get the whole firmware every single time. Has Jay ever even SEEN an iPhone or iPod before? 0_o

I have downloaded the 3.1.2 update and, since then, my GPS is down :(
My 3GS-32 cannot be located any longer.

I just "upgraded" a few days ago, and now I have this strange "undocumented feature" where the phone zooms in too much, to everything!!! Currently it is set to zoom such that I see 2x2 icons on my main screen, almost like a picture! Worst is, that doing picture zoom-out action, doesn't allow it to do anything, although I can move around a little.. but too slow to get to the bottom and answer a call, it is totally stupid!!!

After attempting to download the new update, my ipod touch 1g and 3g went down. It says they need to be restored but when I try to restore them it won't work and now both ipods are frozen.
