Don't care if your friends think you're a douche? Throw a party, get Windows 7 free!

Are you so excited about the upcoming Windows 7 launch that you just can't stop telling all your friends about how super awesome it is? I bet you're so jazzed that you'd even pay double what they're asking for Windows 7 Ultimate. That's pretty jazzed.
Well, buddy, Microsoft has some amazing news for you! Hold on to your boxers. If you can find 9chumps friends and provide a decent pitch, you could be chosen to host a Windows 7 House Party and win a free signature copy of Windows 7 (Kid n Play not included).
There are four pre-defined categories for the party: PhotoPalooza, Media Mania, Setting up with Ease, and Family Friendly Fun. Riveting stuff, to be sure. Nothing says "party" like showing people how to do a Windows 7 install from scratch or editing photos using Paint.

So, no, technically you can't throw a LAN party and FPS all night long with your pals. I'd wager my "Windows 7 Libraries and your porn collection" idea wouldn't go over so well either. Also, be aware that the application page contains a warning for us outlanders: "Most events are limited to the United States." That line totally crushed my dreams of receiving a party pack. I was really hoping to get some "Pumped Steve Ballmer" napkins.
What if you're dead-set on throwing one of these epic bashes, but you're not the best organizer of social events? No problem.
Microsoft has generously built a store into the House Party web site where you can pick up uber-useful things like a book of hot dog recipes and plastic dinner plates which resemble Don Ho's shirt collection. Win!

This idea is so ridiculous, it must have come directly from Ballmer.

Stupid, yes.
Straight from Balmer? No. These tech parties have been slowing building steam.

Seriously, wtf? I know I'm a bit of a geek, but I still have a social life and dignity. And the free Windows 7 offer won't tempt me - i'd rather stick to my TechNet subscription, thanks.

Microsoft seriously needs a new marketing / PR team.
Their ideas are so lame that it's embarrassing.
10 grand IE Campaign? Bing video contest? Windows 7 party? lolwut?

with a little alcohol (or whatever vice you preffer, cough cough) can make this kind of fun I would think... :)

I wonder if that is the only hard drug reference on Download Squad. Something tells me most people who comment on DS aren't much for the hard stuff.

I bet Windows 7 would look lovely with some LSD. We can sit around and watch Aero Peek for a few hours.

Had this announcement come from Google or Apple you young fanboys would be climbing over yourselves to be the first one to send out invites.
Yes, it's really that obvious.

....and it would still be a douchy idea. I'll save my party-throwing for the Red Wings home opener.

This sounds like a normal Friday night to me...?

Actually, there are a lot of companies that do this very thing and it goes over quite well. Now I'll agree with everyone that, for example, Ben & Jerries, Blue Bell, Mattell, Tyco and a few other examples are a helluva lot more fun then Windows 7 but you gotta try when you are losing market share by leaps and bounds thanks to better marketing and the outright free choices.

If it came with a new computer all ready to run the latest bloatware, then maybe I'd consider it -- hey, I had some good times with Windows when I had a top-of-the-line new system, I'm no hater... Until then, I think I'll stick with the OS that keeps being mistaken for Windows 7 yet runs comfortably (complete with fancy eyecandy) on my five-year-old laptop.

I had a great laugh at the comments on this subject. Priceless. Microsoft keep on bringing on the dumb ass ideas, we are not worthy LOL
