Opera 10 is here, but how does it stack up?
I admit it: Download Squad has been talking up Opera 10 all summer. We told you about its wicked-fast new JavaScript engine and the much-hyped Opera Unite, and then Lee told you why he hopes this latest version of Opera will get your attention. Now the day of reckoning has arrived: Opera 10 is here, for Windows, Mac and Linux. How does it stack up to our expectations? Well, there's some good news and some bad news. Good: the Turbo feature for faster browsing on slower Internet connections is in full effect. Bad: two of the most-wanted features - Opera Unite and the Carakan JavaScript engine - didn't make it into this release.
Is Opera 10 still worth going for? Well, it's definitely fast. I gave it a spin on some resource-intensive sites, and without any formal testing, I can say that page load times on my Mac felt at least as fast as those in Safari and Chrome. It also passes the Acid 3 Test with flying colors. Combine that with the slick-looking (and quite space-efficient) new UI and the Turbo feature, and you've got a legitimate candidate for your new favorite browser. And, when Unite finally arrives as a separate download, it should only get better.
Have you tried Opera 10? Will you be switching? Leave us your impressions in the comments.

I'm a linux user ..for linux firefox is the main browser...i used to keep every browser up to date....i'm now using FF 3.5 in linux...I recently installed the latest test version of google chrome in Linux Mint 7 with flash enabled...today i installed Opera 10 also....
For me FF in linux is more like IE in windows...FF 3.5 is even slow in linux compared to FF 3.5 in windows....Chrome in linux with flash enabled is 3 times faster than FF 3.5...I use chrome for my most of the browsing...it is pretty usable in linux now..it crashed only when i opened more than 10 tabs with full flash sites ..that too rarely...So Chrome is my beloved browser...I'm waiting for Chrome to be released officially by google in linux so i can dumb FireFox...
Opera 10 is blazingly fast...i really liked it...They are very innovative as we can keep as many speed dials as we want...They are the one who really brought TABs in browsers...they are the one who brought SPEED DIAL in browser....Now they are really moving towards future ...Their next innovation in browser will be FACE DETECTION and controlling the browser using FACIAL EXPRESSIONS in a computer enable with web cam....
So i will go for GOOGLE CHROME after they officially released the browser as my DEFAULT BROWSER and i'll keep OPERA 10 as my SECONDARY BROWSER and i'll DUMP FIREFOX for ever in my LINUX

The new Opera is awesome. I have been playing around with it and Chrome. I like Internet explorer alot but it's great to have options. I personally use firefox, chrome, ie, opera, safari all.

Most of you that have read my posts on Opera know that it is my #1 browser for years followed by (yes) Firefox.
There is nothing for me to say that I haven't said before except, browsers are a matter of choice, for browsing the web......
For those who don't like Opera, read the help section and user sections of their web site. I can tell by the way you complain that you haven't used it enough or read up on its finer points to really give it a chance......
Free is Good.

Another thing I can't seem to find a solution for is when I use Opera on my Macbook. None of the newer trackpad gestures work at all but they do with Firefox immediately. That's pretty much a deal breaker for using Opera on the go for me.

As much as I try I cannot give up Firefox. I love all the extensions and the way the the bookmarks have been implemented. I use Safari as my backup browser when FF does not work on a Web site.

Opera 10 add some nice little things, such as:
- 'Open With' to open current address with other browsers. Currently support Firefox, IE, Safari, and Chrome.
- The menu bar can be hidden, like Chrome and Safari.
- Tab thumbnail above the address bar. I really wish they had a shortcut key for that.

i've used Opera on and off through the years. I was really in love with it a while back, but all the bugs finally wore me down and I haven't gone back since.

I've been using it since the first beta, it more or less has become my main browser on Windows, MacOSX and Linux.
Apart from a few problems with some Facebook apps it is been fine.

I downloaded it and tried it, on the first site i opened it to (afl.com.au), it encountered a problem and had to close! I sent the error report to Opera, but if i want error messages i will use IE. I went back to Firefox and the site ran perfect. Firefox for me.
