After two years, Nintendo sets its web browser free
The Nintendo Wii has had an optional web browser almost as long as the gaming console has existed. But for some baffling reason, you had to pay $5 (or rather, 500 Wii Points) to use the browser, which was built by the fine folks at Opera. In order to use a web browser. You had to pay.
Anyway, it looks like those dark days are behind us. Nintendo has set the web browser free, so anyone can download it without using up any Wii points. You'll need to have space either on your Wii or an SD card to install the browser. And of course, your game console will have to be hooked up to an internet connection.
If you already shelled out the 500 Wii Points for the browser, your $5 wasn't spent in vain. Electric Pig reports that Nintendo will roll out a virtual coupon that lets users who paid for the browser download a Virtual Console title worth up to 500 points starting in October.

Woohoo! I want my 500 points back!
Thanks Nintedo for finally doing the right thing!

Well this sucks! Wont get 500 points back, but will get a FREE NES download!
Why can't I get a C64 download or a Master System? Screw Nintedo!

I'm probably wrong, but NES downloads probably cost Nintendo very little if not nothing. They may have to give Sega, Commodore International, etc. compensation for each download.

I don't know... maybe the same reason that Target does not give you a gift certificate for Home Depot when you return things.

Finally! I rarely use my Wii except to go mostly on the Everyone Votes channel (which I really like). I used to play Mario Party 8 but the disc wouldn't work anymore.
Anyway, my Wii seems to have broken down! I was playing Sonic Riders with my little bro, and I after I just won some level, it just turned off! Ugh.
Also, there seems to be a lot of slots for MANY Wii channels, but there's like only up to 14 channels you can available? What's up with that? Oh, and the experience with connecting with friends is horrible. What a waste. I'd like an Xbox.

>browser, you're $5
>you're
Lol Grammar Typo :o
But this is awesome news, it did seem a little strange that they wouldn't just give it away free with the Wii...

Update? Ya!
Free? Kinda cool, I already got mine for free (downloaded it when it was beta).
Still no Flash 8? Boooooo....
I still want Hulu on my Wii.

I believe Hulu requires Flash 9 or higher. The Wii browser now supports Flash Lite 3.1, which is supposed to be able to handle most Flash 8 content. But yeah, still no Hulu.
