UK Windows 7 price to be 50% of US price
Now here's something you don't see every day. A piece of technology that's going to be cheaper for UK customers than those in the US. Typically UK shoppers end up paying more for computers, gaming consoles and software than their US counterparts.
But CNET has discovered that Microsoft is charging just £65 for a full version of Windows 7 Home Premium. That's about $107 US, while Americans will have to pay about $200 to get a full version. Heck, even the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium will run $120 in the US.
The Microsoft UK store lists the price a bit higher at £79.99 or about $131 US, but you can find the operating system for £65 at Amazon.

Why can't we lose Internet Explorer and get 50% off too?
KevinAug 20th 2009 1:46PM
Heh.. so IE is really that valuable to you?

It's about time we got something for a lower price than you guys, because we get raped at everything else when it comes to Software/Hardware.

Shave off another 50%, get Linux!
kojo87Aug 19th 2009 3:32PM
so Linux costs 25% of US Windows? nice math dink
GeirAug 19th 2009 6:05PM
I meant of course 50% + 50% = 100% mr. jojo.
I'm sure you can find a Linux distro at around 25% off the U.S. price of Windows 7 too though.

So can I order a UK copy and use it in the US? Or is there some form of region detection? I probably wouldn't be able to get it from amazon though because wouldn't they know not to sell it out of the country?

You could, but it would probably have pounds sterling, and U.K. English 'round every corner. I WANT. You could probably buy the UK version from amazon, with an import cost that would make it not worthwhile. On the other hand, I have a feeling there will be PLENTY of good deals with coupons and upgrade options in the future, right here in the USA

It doesn't really matter when MS isn't offering any sort of upgrade package for European shoppers. I'm going to have to reinstall all my programs, games, copy over all my old files and tweak the new system to work how I like it. I think I'll stick around despite the lower price.
Andrew MoultonAug 20th 2009 4:28AM
or you could just not upgrade, i don't think it would kill you to use the setup you're accustomed to...that being said, it would kill me not to have the latest software, but i have MSDN so pfft! :-P

I preordered my copy for £45 ($74)
