Microsoft to shut down Windows Live Events

Microsoft plans to pull the plug on event planning service Windows Live Events starting in September. At that point you won't be able to make new events. In 2010, the service will shut down entirely. The company is suggesting users switch to using Windows Live Calendar to plan and manage events.

On the one hand, it makes sense to integrated it with the company's online calendar offering. On the other, it's always annoying for users when a company shuts down a service they've come to rely on.

Existing Windows Live Events users that have uploaded files and photos to use in their events and invitations will need to download them if you want to save them before the service goes offline. Microsoft has put together a set of instructions for saving your data.
