Mobile Minute: WinMo 6.5 caught on tape
Lucky Rob Kerr got a little face time with Windows Mobile 6.5 running on a HTC Touch Diamond2. During the demo you'll thrill to the very Zune-y interface, marvel at the nascent Market Place and plotz when you see the My Phone sync. Yep, My Phone backs up your phone's data to your Windows Live account. The iPhone can't do that, can it? More hot icon and web page rendering action over on the Inquirer. While we're looking forward to 6.5, we hear WinMo 7's premium hotness will be all multi-touch-y feely and totally awesome. Either way, this whole "competition breeds innovation" thing seems to be working.

I thought this place was going the way of engadget with all the iphone stuff. Of course engadget already covered this video twice.... It wasn't until the second time that they actually realized the significant news from the video was at the end when "Windows Phone 7" was mentioned as being for "premium phones" and being out alongside 6.5. I like 6.5 and I'm looking forward to final builds. I hope to have 7 on my next phone and look forward to a new version of "Windows Phone".

Microsoft has made some really great user experiences on software and gadgets before, so I"m guessing they've finally concentrated on Windows Mobile now, and that 7 really will be a great user experience.
If they could just speed up development a bit more, and get it on the market sooner...

What's Windows Live? Isn't it a knock off of Apple's MobileMe (formerly ".Mac"), which has been around since 2002? Yes, the iPhone syncs with Internet-based services. What planet are you from?

Yea, Windows Live at first wasn't a knockoff. Windows Live on my Tilt was a pretty cool program that listed gas prices, restaurants, weather, movie times, and a few other things. But you know how Redmond works. It sees something it likes, takes it, shoddily copies it, and rebrands it. Now it syncs like MobileMe(.Mac), however probably not as fluently and integrated as MobileMe is. I'll stick to my 3GS. From that video, WM still hasn't figured out how to speed up their OS. It still looks like it's incredibly laggy compared to other Smartphones.
