That means you've got a little more than 24 hours to decide whether to pick up Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $49.99 or Professional Upgrade for $99.99.
If you plan on buying a new computer in the next few months, odds are it will come with the option of a free or cheap upgrade to Windows 7 once the operating system is released in October. So you can probably afford to skip this offer (unless that computer you plan on buying is a netbook, which probably won't qualify). But if you think you might want to run Windows 7 on your existing PC, you might want to make a note that the prices are going to go up significantly on Sunday.

So ... uh ... how would this work if I am using Windows Vista Ultimate and I pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium, with the intent to upgrade it to Windows 7 Ultimate through the Upgrade anytime process?
I assume I can't upgrade from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium?

The chart here (bottom of page) indicates you can upgrade from anything to anything else (well, XP or Vista to Win7) but if you aren't upgrading from same to same (ex, Ultimate to Ultimate or Home to Home) you'll need to do a clean install:

Well... most techies build their own systems, so very few techies actually have Windows pre-installed

Just out of curiosity, I put windows 7 RC on my desktop and my laptop... and my girlfriends netbook (each computer could be rolled back to vista/linux) does that mean I have to buy 3 versions of windows 7? Can i just buy one copy and install it on all three systems?

technically yes, you can do it.
Legally no you cannot.
Up to you really, its not like they can "FIND OUT" that you have the same cd-key on 3 different pc's.

Damn, it sucks us Europeans aren't getting a discounts as well. I'm quite happy to upgrade but I'm going to college soon and don't want to spend a lot of money on this new OS.
