Firefox 3.5 is out, adds private browsing, tab tearing and more

But there are also a few new bells and whistles including a private browsing mode that lets you surf the web without saving any data to your computer. You know, because you don't want your spouse knowing what you're buying for their birthday. Because that's what you'll use this feature for.
There's also support for "tab tearing," which lets you drag and drop tabs between browser windows. Or you can drag a tab out of a browser window to create a new window. Firefox 3.5 also supports HTML video which lets you watch some videos embedded in web pages without any plugins.
Update: The change is now up at getfirefox.com.

how seamlessly will this install with my pre-existing Firefox installation?
And what about add on compatibility?
tjdouglasJun 30th 2009 10:53AM
It broke about 50% of my add ons including Tab Mix Plus. But overall it works well, I can go a while at work without TM+, but not at home.

There is a beta of TBP which will work with it.

Brad, I notice in the screenshot that you have both Weave and Xmarks installed ... any conflicts?
Brad LinderJun 30th 2009 11:20AM
Nope, no conflicts. I've been using Xmarks for ages. I installed Weave yesterday to check out the latest build. I'm not 100% ready to switch from Xmarks to Weave full time, but it's getting close.

Seems to be a bit faster, though I'm not sure about the new tab button.
JakurbJun 30th 2009 12:06PM
You can get the developer build of tab mix plus (just search for it).
Is it just me or does this use a lot more memory than it used to?

Hahaha! "You know, because you don't want your spouse knowing what you're buying for their birthday. Because that's what you'll use this feature for." that's kick ass funny!

I have used Firefox 3.5 since it was 3.5b1. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled Firefox 3.5 today just to get rid of the "Preview" name. lol

Have it updated on my XP machine, but still waiting for Ubuntu to update it...I wonder if they will.
CamJun 30th 2009 1:55PM
Been using it since 3.1 b1, no addons were broken.

Anyone else notice a little empty box appearing under their mouse after the upgrade?
If so, do you know why it's there? And if it is a bug, any ideas how to get rid of it?
TIA
