Map FTP servers to Windows drives with NetDrive

NetDrive is a Windows utility that lets you treat remote FTP sites as if they were local drives. The first time you connect to an FTP site, you have to create a profile. But once you're connected you can copy files to and from the FTP site using Windows Explorer or any other file explorer of your choosing. No FTP client required. To disconnect from the FTP server, just bring up the NetDrive window again and hit the disconnect button.

You can also configure NetDrive to automatically map an FTP site as a Windows drive every time your computer boots up. This could come in handy if you want to use a file backup utility to automatically back up files to an FTP server, or if you constantly need to copy files to and from your web hosting server.

NetDrive includes profiles for a few anonymous FTP servers including the KDE, GNOME, and FreeBSD projects as well as Adobe, Apple, HP, and Microsoft servers. You can also create your own profiles.

Maybe I'm missing soemthing, but couldn't you do this anyways? Right now I have a FTP site set up in explorer I can write to using any program

You aren't missing something. Map network drive has the same functionality; you can map an FTP server as a drive, set it to automatically connect and log in, etc. Wouldn't let me log in as root (while Filezilla does) but other than that, works fine. -On second note, the network location isn't showing up in any save dialogs. On a third note, yes it is, just not in MS Paint. -_-

AH, I see the main attraction. Map Network Drive does NOT assign a drive letter to the location, while this program does. I imagine some command line fu would accomplish the same thing, I'll look around on the intertubes.

It should be noted that this software does not work with x64 versions of Windows. If you want to map a FTP site to a drive letter with x64 Windows there is another product called WebDrive (http://www.webdrive.com/products/webdrive/index.html) that basically does the same thing NetDrive does.

I installed it onto 2 vista business computer and after awhile it crashed both. Not sure if I want continue now. One of the benefits are over vista's map drive tool is it's much faster. In a program when you go to save to the drive it's instant.
