Windows 7 box art confirmed, product page now live on MS Store
There's a new product page for Windows 7 on the Microsoft Store. And while there's no word on official pricing yet, there are pictures showing what the Windows 7 retail packaging will look like. And wouldn't you know it, it looks exactly like the leaked images that were first found floating around the web last month.
The product page also has a list of reasons to buy the new operating system, including the fact that it's faster and more responsive than Vista, allows users to stream media over a network, and has a a new and improved taskbar. No surprises there, but I have to agree, these are all pretty good reasons to upgrade from Windows Vista, as are the other highlights listed on the product page. Whether they'll be enough to get holdouts to upgrade from Windows XP remains to be seen.

Looks good.

I like it
When it first got leaked people were complaining it looked too much like Vista. Aside from the shape, it actually looks alot more like XP's with the simple, solid color and big Windows logo in the center (with a touch of bloom)

Is the Windows logo shedding?

Oh my goodness. It's so beautiful. And so original too! Now I know why all those package designers get the big bucks. ;-)

If they're trying so hard to distance themselves from Vista, why on earth did they choose to package the most mainstream version in a green box?
shaunisadirtyJun 6th 2009 10:04PM
Because originally the most main stream version of xp was in a big green box. If everybody has been saying for the past three years that xp > vista (which it's not, imo), then advertising states that's what you associate 7 with. It's good advertising on their part. Personally though to me, it's just a box, it's what's inside that counts, and so far what's inside is absolutely amazing.

Go all the back to XP and you have the same color scheme: green for XP Home, blue for XP Professional.

That's a good point, but Vista's all-encompassing theme was deeply based in the same green. I think it's a mistake for them to even allude to it, let alone make the entire box the same shade of green. Especially the most mainstream version that 95%+ of homes will have (granted most of those pre-installed on new PCs).
At least use a lighter green like on Download Squad's page.

I finally bought a new computer with Vista pre-installed. It's not the nightmare I expected, perhaps because I held out long enough for M$ to get many of the bugs out, but it is a pain in the ass relative to XP. Seems to me I should be entitled to a discounted W7 upgrade.

engadget has reported some info regarding pricing, though obviously not definitive: http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/05/best-buy-memo-explains-that-vista-doesnt-work-details-windows/

Downloadsquad covered that yesterday.

i'm sorry, but it's a BOX.
why are people ooh-ing and aah-ing over it?
bigsoftyJun 7th 2009 9:44AM
Because this site has a weird behind the scenes association with Microsoft, constant off topic (WTF has this to do with downloading anything?) MS product posts, followed by really weird MS fanboys (who illogically fawn over product placements) comments, who give the impression they all work at redmond... its really annoying and putting people off this feed...

@bigsofty
Oh, you mean like the apple fanboys over at engadget? And engadget obsession with all things apple?
Lee MathewsJun 8th 2009 1:12PM
I can truthfully say that there's nothing weird about our behind-the-scenes relationship with Microsoft. Unless you count my torrid affair with Steve Ballmer.
But seriously dude. I don't even know anyone that works at MS.
And since they do power almost 90% of the world's computers, so sometimes we like to report on their product news.
