Microsoft releases Windows Vista SP2
The update also includes Windows Search 4.0, which is the latest version of Microsoft's desktop search client, plus improved WiFi performance after resuming from sleep mode.
In order to install Windows Vista SP2, you'll need to have Service Pack 1 installed. Microsoft indicates that it might take an hour or more to install the update, and after you're done some hardware (like your sound card) might not work until you install updated drivers.
You can download Windows Vista SP2 for 32-bit or 64-bit processors. Or check out the release notes for more information.

Just an FYI, but if you use Nod 32 Av or Smart Security v4.0, hold off on SP2 as there are numerous reports of it resulting in BSODs - so you may want to wait until ESET have a fix first.

To be fair its more ESET's fault then MS's as this problem with Nod32 has apparently been known about for a while - they should have had more than enough time to fix it. The final version itself has been out for nearly a month and available for testing for months before then.

I have an HP media friendly PC. It's always worked brilliantly! Until...
SP2 arrived via windows update notification, so I agreed to install it.
Big mistake.
It took hours to update/install.
Upon reboot all appeared OK, until I tried to do some Media stuff. It appeared that the update messed with my device drivers and some things stop working (one eg. my wireless mouse and keyboard)
Also, I use MS Office 2003 and in Excel I tried to copy a cell from one location to another. It froze my PC for about 20 sec. when I pressed Ctrl-C. Then another 20 sec. when I pressed Ctrl-V.
I thought maybe a reboot would help iron out some of the problems, but the shutdown took forever and then the dreaded BSOD greeted my because their was an error with my USB drivers (maybe a link to the wireless mouse and keyboard problem).
Upon rebooting my PC was slower. Task manager was having problems as Windows Explorer crashed and had to reload several times. Wireless mouse worked, then stopped working.
Upon rebooting my PC got even slower. Again wireless worked, then just stopped. I started to think I had a virus, but I didn't (unless you call SP2 a virus). I tried to run System Restore, but because of Explorer's problems it wouldn't load. Again, slow reboot climaxing with BSOD.
Restarted in Safe Mode. Ran System Restore and got rid of SP2. This took about an hour, but was worth it.
My PC now runs brilliantly as before.

On Saturday June 6, 2009 we downloaded and installed SP2 for the Windows Vista, 32-bit edition operating system.
I'm running a Gateway PC with 3.2 GHz P-4 CPU w/ HT, 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, and have lots of software installed.
Installation took less than 20 minutes, no blue screen of death (BSOD), and am running ESET NOD32 v. 3.06.
Upon reboot, no issues or problems. The PC now runs faster, smoother, and many of the delays that once were present in the OS have disappeared.
This is one Service Pack that I highly recommend.

i downloaded sp2 for vista - it took 30 minutes to download
and it took 3 hours to install
i had to reboot 10 times cause it was so slow
everything seems normal
why must microsoft make this hard for the average user ?
this is good reason to switch to a mac ..
