I used to pay $45 a year or so just to access the archived NYT Crossword stuff. Sometime last year I stopped paying, after realizing I almost never used it enough to make it worth my while. But the NYT Digital Edition has the crossword built-in, and that's just so cool. The whole experience is totally making me consider spending $15 a month to have a pleasant access experience, that's paper free. I don't have a Kindle so, that's just one more reason to consider doing it, at least for a month or so.
