Edison helps your PC conserve energy, save you money

Edison
The simplest way to cut down on the amount of energy your computer uses is to shut it down when you're not using it. Turning off the display, hard drive, and other hardware helps too. And while you can do all of this manually, let's face it: you're lazy. Edison is a free utility for Windows XP and Vista that automates the process for you.

Here's how it works. You can slide a fader to adjust your energy saving preferences. Edison will automatically adjust your Windows power scheme to turn off your display, hard drive, and computer after a certain period of inactivity. You can set separate profiles for "work time" and "non-work time" allowing you to change your power schemes automatically. Edison also lets you decide when your work day begins and ends.

The program also estimates how much money, energy, and CO2 you'll save at various settings. These figures are only rough estimates and there's no way to adjust the price per kWh, so if you happen to be in an area with unusually high electric rates, your results may vary.
