Block out online distractions by force with SelfControl
SelfControl is a Mac app aimed at stopping you from indulging in online distractions while you're trying to get your work done. The way it goes about that is pretty extreme: it disables access to distracting sites of your choice, and all email servers, for a period of time you specify. Even restarting won't remove the block; you'll just have to wait for the time to run out.You can still use other websites while SelfControl is active, so it doesn't stop you from using the web for work. The only problem with this concept is that you have to have self-control to use SelfControl. I've downloaded the app, but I can't bring myself to push the button. What if I spend the entire time finding more distractions? If you're ready to admit you have a Twitter/Facebook/email/whatever problem, definitely give this app a try. As for me, I can quit whenever I want ...

Is there a similar product for Windows?

The perfect application for this is convincing someone (Jay perhaps?) that they have a problem. Imagine waking up in the morning and finding SelfControl has been installed by a caring, helpful friend. :-)
