I think it's a good step since one can miss the @ in mid-tweet. However, what I'm disappointed about is that they don't have the option to have it emailed or on RSS. As far as I can tell, you must go to the page.
Personally I don't mind since I use RSS, search, and tweetbeep to take care of it all, but if they added email (like they do for DM) it would be easier for me to teach others about it because they could get all conversations emailed.
