Windows Mobile 6.5 updated, Honeycomb UI tweaked
Microsoft showed off a recent build of Windows Mobile 6.5 at MIX09 yesterday, and it doesn't look quite like the earlier builds we've seen. Probably the most notable change is that Microsoft has removed the "honeycomb" grid lines that populated earlier versions. Program icons are still laid out in a staggered pattern, but there aren't lines separating the areas. I can't decide if I like the new UI better or not, what do you think?Another update is that when you flick your finger to scroll through pages of icons, the animation will flip through one window at a time and then stop, which should make it a lot harder to miss the button you're looking for. Of course, if you have a ton of applications, it'll take longer to scroll through them all this way.
You can watch a 3 minute video of the presentation at I Started Something.

Removal of "honeycombs" doesn't cause Windows Mobile to be any less useless from a developer's perspective. As soon as you no longer have to develop, maintain and support unique instances of your app for each and every model of phone that runs WinMo, let me know ( I won't even mention the $10,000 licensing fees ).
Oh yeah, if the campy 1992 faux modern honeycombs are gone, which were meant to be a kind of guide for where to touch the screen with one's finger tip, does that mean they are back to using asinine stylus?
WinMo 6.5 lameness is more proof that Redmond just doesn't care if it keeps losing huge chunks of mobile OS market share, like it has with their browser?

@Todd your constant MS trolling is extremely lame and boring .. maybe try something smart or witty for a change and give us all a nice surprise.

I think 6.5 is a fine upgrade - It covers the most basic things that users have been wanting, and considering it's just a point upgrade, I think the updates are fine.
WM7 is something Microsoft is probably going to focus more on.

@todd, are you a moron? They just removed the outlines, the functionality is exactly the same as previous builds (i.e the touch area is still a honeycomb around the icon).
