Firefox 3.1 renamed Firefox 3.5
Mozilla has already delayed the release of Firefox 3.1 several times in order to work out all the kinks in the latest build of the popular web browser. Now the development team has decided that "3.1" doesn't adequately describe the significance of this the upcoming release, so the next major version of Firefox will be called Firefox 3.5.Firefox 3.5 will include an improved JavaScript engine, new privacy features, changes to the way browser tabs are handled, and enhanced web standards compatibility.
The team plans to release at least one or two more beta versions before pushing out Firefox 3.5. And just to keep things interesting, the next beta will be called Firefox 3.1 Beta 3.
In related news, Mozilla pushed out a minor update to Firefox 3 this week. Version 3.0.7 includes several security and stability fixes. If you're running Firefox 3.0.6, you should be prompted to update automatically.

Awesome. I just won a 6-pack of beer.
I bet a buddy that due to the delay situation, Moz would rename to a .5 version and fluff up the extras. Mooo-hhaaaa-haaaa.

I bet it had nothing to do with Safari turning 4 recently. Nothing at all.

Minor pet peeve but I hate the term "pushed out" to refer to software releases.

I'm using the current 3.1 beta 2, and it sure doesn't appear to be worth the big 3.5 update number. On my Mac it's only marginally faster than the "shipping" 3.0.7, and I see no new tabs features. Not to mention it still takes forever and a day to launch compared to every other browser I've tried.
I've been a huge Firefox fan for the last year or so, but I've switched to Safari 4 and haven't looked back. Every once in a while I miss an extension or two that I had in Firefox, but I've managed to work through it - and been rewarded with an almost instant launch time, and MUCH faster page loads than Firefox 3.1b2 has.

Firefox is looking more and more outdated everyday. If it wasn't for it's compatibility with my favorite sites I would drop it without a doubt.

Pardon my ignorance, but in what ways is Firefox outdated? The java speed of Safari is marginally better but with the with all the possible customization/ extensions I think that Firefox has a lot more to offer..
