E.gg Timer is a simple way to start a countdown
An egg timer is the kind of single-purpose kitchen gadget that I never have around. Hey, the microwave has its own timer, right? If you don't have one around either, and you need a countdown for some reason, you can just turn to the web and open up E.gg Timer. It's a lot easier to figure out than some microwaves. Here's an example:. Let's say your Jello needs some time to set, and you want 2 hours on the clock. Go to e.ggtimer.com/2hours. Your countdown will start right away, and it'll beep twice when it's over. If you need to remember your brother's birthday, and it's 3 weeks and 4 days away, go to e.ggtimer.com/3weeks4days. You might not want to keep the browser tab open for that long, but you get the idea. If you just put in a number, E.gg Timer will assume you mean seconds.

add this to the list of utterly pointless websites... and reviews for that matter... you must be bored !

You must be doubly bored to post on how bored the writer of the post must be. Me, I think it's pretty darn groovy. Even if it's 'useless' to have a timer, it's a rather nifty application.

Sorry, I only recognise one state of boredom... bored ! However, your assumption would be correct non the less.
I find it strange that you'd also consider a useless application nifty.

I wasn't bored. I thought this was an interesting execution of a concept. A lot of other people must have thought so too, as this made the front page of Delicious.

Many useless things are nifty. I can't really use a good song for anything, but it's nifty how it makes my day a bit better.

you could use it as a ringtone

this isn't so bad actually, i'm a student and our dorm microwave doesn't have a timer. although, if i want convenience, my ipod touch does have a timer.

This is awesome! I'm a student so don't have my own washer/dryer. I'll chuck my clothes in for a 40 min wash, come back up to my dorm and sit and go on the net or something. Left it in there for 8 hours once.
This solves it! Awesome find!

I see how the timer-setting method is cool and all that, but I really can't imagine wanting to use this instead of something you don't have to keep your browser open for. I have an excellent, simple and elegant Dashboard widget called Minutes that serves as a timer whether I'm online or not, requiring only a "spin" of its dial to set, and I'm sure there are gadgets for Vista (and Yahoo! Widget Engine widgets) that accomplish that too. Devoting an entire website to do the function of a (very!) simple widget just doesn't quite make sense to me. "Web apps" I can get...this, not so much.
