ID Software makes another push for Quake Live beta testers

In case you're out of the loop on this one, let's bring you up to speed. ID Software has dusted off Quake and plans to release Quake Live, a completely free, browser-based FPS.

Free? Yep.

There will, of course, be in-game advertising to generate revenue, but I doubt too many fans of ID's classics will be upset about that. Their employers may not be thrilled, however. Goodbye, productivity!

Quake Live currently runs on Windows, and while it's played in your browser there will be an offline bot mode available for practice purposes. Mac and Linux users will have to wait and see if they'll be able to get in on the action.

Registering for the beta won't guarantee you a spot. If you aren't the patient type, you can always do a quick Google search and see who's got some invites to share. The full release of Quake Live will happen this August at QuakeCon in Dallas.
