Windows Mobile app store, cloud sync service coming soon
As expected, Microsoft is preparing to introduce the next version of Windows Mobile at the Mobile World Congress next month. But Microsoft's Andrew Lees tells the New York Times that the company has more than an OS update up its sleeve.
One new feature on the horizon is synchronization between your mobile device, your computer, and Windows Live web services. For instance, when you take a photo, it could be automatically uploaded to Windows Live where you can share it with your friends or store it in a private album and synchronize it with your photos on your computer. Unlike Apple's MobileMe service, Microsoft won't charge for synchronization. Instead the company sees it as a basic feature of the operating system.
According to Neowin, this service could be called SkyBox, and it could also allow users to automatically backup and restore their data over the web as well. Neowin says Microsoft will also launch a service called SkyMarket which will essentially be an app store that will allow users to download and install applications directly from their mobile devices.

The sync service already exists in the shape of the Mesh client for WinMo.

@Tony2x... I like it when people say this because it just goes to show they do NOT understand what Mesh was all about. Mesh was ONLY a CONCEPT BETA. It is and was nothing else.
Mesh is just the "client beta test" of the Azure platform. Obviously Microsoft is already pretty happy with the success of Mesh BUT they don't need Mesh anymore... because they will be introducing all of their "correct" cloud based "sync" software within the next few months - which will be Azure as the back-end platform (just like Mesh did).
