SUPER video player and encoder releases 2009 version
The powerful, versatile, and free video encoding and playback app SUPER has released a new version that adds tons of new functionality to the already powerful application.
If you're not familiar with the program, it's based on Open Source projects like FFMpeg, libavcodec, MPlayer, and MEncoder and can play or convert just about any video file - even to formats for the Nintendo DS and PSP.
While the "everything on one page" interface hasn't changed, a number of new encoding and play features have been added or improved, like WMV9, FLAC, and OGG support.
One downside to SUPER is the horribly constructed website. There's not a clear location for the download, so I'll save you some hassle: go to this page, press your end key and look for Download SUPER @ setup file.

FormatFactory is better in terms of interface and user-friendliness.....

I have been using this software for a few years now and have found it to be fantastic. I do totally agree with the comments regarding website and user interface, however, it is now available from my favourite website filehippo extremely useful for sourcing free software downloads.

Actually, here's the direct link to the setup file..

r, like everything else on that absurd website, the link doesn't work. it really is an irony that the people that produced super, a fine app, also produced this 90s style travesty.
many many folks must be put off trying super out of frustration trying to download it. amazing.

My goodness that was the worst website I've ever had to wade through to find a download. Each "download" link took me to a new page telling me how great SUPER was. OK I UNDERSTAND. LET ME HAVE IT.
DeoWulfJan 5th 2009 5:42PM
And now the download itself is slow as heck... 4.9 kb/sec, est. 1h45m remaining. Seriously? This program better live up to all this.
MikeJan 6th 2009 4:42PM
I'm in western PA and I'm getting 65kb/s, so it must be your connection or location.
DeoWulfJan 6th 2009 4:48PM
I got about that from Filehippo. My connection's stellar. It was their server, apparently.
But hey, I'm converting season 1 of Dr. Who for my Zune now. All's well that ends well.
archerJan 5th 2009 5:54PM
and the funny part is that they make such a big deal out of not downloading from any other source, while making it virtually impossible to get from them! ha! it's like some kind of bad joke.
archerJan 5th 2009 5:57PM
oh, deowulf, i forgot to mention, that your download that you somehow managed to get started may well quit half way through as it did with me with the previous version. i suggest dumping it and going to filehippo.
DeoWulfJan 5th 2009 6:51PM
Nope, it got through ok. 30 Mb for an installer, though... my hard drive is nearly full already >
DeoWulfJan 5th 2009 7:07PM
Dangit, nevermind. It must have "finished" halfway when I wasn't looking. The .exe is corrupted.

Had to disable Adblock Plus extension in FF in order to download.
They actually have download instructions:

I think they are just trying to get as much ad revenue as they can by having to go through 3 different pages containing blocks of Google AdSense.

Does this do anything I can't do with the latest version of Handbrake?
I mean, if so, fantastic, but... well, Handbrake is awesome.
That's it.
RicardoJan 5th 2009 9:10PM
This is an intersting program tu use! But maybe Format Factory o Handbrake or better?
blog.wardJan 6th 2009 1:47AM
Super is one of those you have as well as Format Factory - but if the web admin is reading this, please! Your site takes suckiness to a depth not even contemplated in the 1990s. Fix it man!

I'm getting a virus warning about a component that SUPER is trying to install....ff2ogg.exe.tmp. I use Avira AntiVir and it says this program is either a virus or unwanted and it contains HEUR/Crypted suspicious code
MikeJan 6th 2009 4:45PM
the crappy heuristics in Avira pick up everything, and in this case it found the encryption code when converting a file to ogg format.
do yourself a favor and go get a free copy of Avast. Avira doesn't even have a worthwhile on-demand scanner included in their free AV, making it totally useless.
