AlertThingy 2 adds support for Facebook, Flickr, more services
Now AlertThingy has been updated to version two, and it supports the following services:
- Digg
- Flickr
- Jaiku
- TinyURL
- Tumblr
If you prefer the classic version of AlertThingy that works with just FriendFeed, AlertThingy v1 is still available for download as well.

I just uninstalled this yesterday. It was good, but it took up way to much memory (about 56,000 K)

Too bad they removed FriendFeed support in newest version. Only available in the old plain version.

Might as well just use both. I like Twhirl better so far but it doesn't have Facebook support or RSS feeds. So a combination of the two will make one very useful offspring.

Installation: while not too painful was annoying as it forced me to re-install the same version of AIR I already had. It would be nice if the code actually checked before forcing a new install.
Settings: Could never get it to work w/Facebook even after manually configuring FB to allow Alerty access to everything it asked. Also no access to how often it requests updates. For Twitter users, the latter needs to be included. Has no filters (that I could ascertain) to avoid double data being culled.
Use: Pretty simple to use barring the annoyances above. However, it merges every feed into one long stream. The current version is a bit confusing frankly. And if you add RSS feeds it becomes even worse.
Overall: Off to a good start but I won't be abandoning twhirl anytime soon. It still needs a lot of work, IMHO.
