Thanks to the Windows Explorer integration, you could easily use LiveDrive as an offsite backup tool like Carbonite or Mozy. Just install your favorite file backup utility and point it to the L drive.
Livedrive is free while in beta, but I have a feeling the company will probably start charging a fee when the beta ends.

Read the Terms of Service carefully. The first clause makes this service highly suspect:
quote:
"You may use Livedrive for lawful purposes only. Livedrive may remove any material for which you are not an authorised user of the material's copyright without notice."
What exactly does this mean? How can they distinguish 'lawful' backups of movies, music, or even application installers vs. 'unlawful' ones? This defeats the point of a safe, secure backup if they can arbitrarily decide to delete your data.
As a paying customer I would never accept this. In fairness, I have emailed them for clarification on the clause.

According to LiveDrives Terms of Service
"30 day trial
Customers opening their first Livedrive account are entitled to use the initial 30 days as a trial basis and will not be charged for this period. Customers wishing to discontinue after the trial period must give notice as above."
Question 1:
What will happen after the 30 days is over? Getting charged???

So what happen after it come out from beta and gonna start charging? Because they are giving unlimited storage so no question for drive size but what happen to our files that we uploaded?....

I think that once it comes out of beta, that gives you 30 days to get all your content off their servers and backed up yourself, if you are choosing not to subscribe.
They also sent a email out to suscribers with pricing plan details.
How much will the service cost after the beta?
Livedrive is free to use during our beta period. The beta period is a chance for you to give us your feedback about our service and for us to ensure any problems with the service are found before we “go live” in January 2009. After the go-live date Livedrive will be available in two editions with prices ranging from approximately £40 per annum for the standard version to £200 per annum for the business version. Both editions will include unlimited storage. The business version will have multi-user support for small businesses. Please note we are giving this information as a general guide and it is subject to change. As a beta user, you may be offered a discount if you decide to keep your service once we go live. If you chose not to keep your service, you will be offered a period to remove your files from your account before it is shut down. Note: the above prices are in British Pound Sterling, equivalent US$ pricing will be offered to our US customers.

Do you have a client for Mac and Linux?
We will be releasing a Mac version of our software during the first half of 2009. It will be available free of charge to all customers. There are currently no plans for a Linux version. Note that we will be offering a Java upload function from the web-portal over the next 14 days that will work on Apple computers.
Oh, and Livedrive doesn't work on 64 bit windows right now.

Not so fast gentleman. This product is not unlimited . I was limited at 35.5 GB. O.k., that a lot you say but its not unlimited. I wanted to back up my disk and add other files it becomes very marginal.
Second if you have a "usage" cap like we do here in Canada and you are playing with uploading and downloading you get to your cap quite quickly. So watch your self while you are setting up and may be downloading, erasing, and re-downloading again.

I am not so hot on Microsoft's L drive. I have to "piece" together the backup solution myself. If I forget to copy to the L drive, my files get out of date. I prefer http://www.myotherdrive.com because they give me both unattended online backup (I set the schedule and can forget about it) and file sharing. This company really blends backup and sharing better than any other site - like Mozy and box.net all in one.

Hey livedrive is so much better than mozy and carbonite, think about it, livedrive is unlimited compared to mozy and carbonite where you need to have it all on your computer if not it gets deleted online. Also with the new updates livedive is rolling out weekly my uploads are going like no problem and I actually can use this as a storage instead of only backup. for 100 bucks a year this si not bad mozy and carbonite are 50 so for twice i dont mind have unlimted storage online. best price around.
