Help! I need a free app to convert DAA and UIF files!

"I've been looking through the web for some free program to do this for me and I haven't had any luck. UltraISO and MagicISO are great programs, but I just don't have the money to dish 30 bucks on each [one]."
First off, let's be honest. If you're dealing with a UIF or DAA, it's very likely a disc image of a program or game you torrented (this may or may not have been my own experience). If you're extracting, mounting, or burning something like that, you may as well just torrent MagicISO or UltraISO too and be done with it. I'm certainly not going to judge anyone for doing that.
If you're working with completely legitimate files and would prefer to keep things on the up-and-up, there is a free solution.
Developer Luigi Auriemma is on your side, David. He's got two apps for download from his site - DAA2ISO and UIF2ISO. Both apps work well, and do exactly what they say. He's also got an interesting text file detailing how MagicISO improperly "borrowed" his DAA conversion code.
All you'll need then is a good app to mount or burn the iso file, and there are plenty to choose from. For burning, I like ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP. To mount the image, try Daemon Tools (watch out for the toolbar during install), Slysoft's Virtual CloneDrive, or Phantom CD.
Good luck, David - I hope this helps!

PowerISO can take all disk images, but that does cost a hefty sum. And *some* of my DAA's are legit, jerk!

if youre willing to pirate photoshop, or whatever is in daa or uif, then why do you have a problem pirating poweriso or magiciso?

Why would you make a comment that the author already made in his article? Did you even read it? I hate morons like you who post stupid comments that don't add anything to the discussion. Now that that is out of the way...
I like InfraRecorder a little better than CDBurnerXP, you can download it at
http://infrarecorder.org/
It is a free program as well.

Guess what, you can use PowerISO. I have found it to be way better than MagicISO and yes... You do have to pay for it. BUT you can download a pre-registered portable one that doesn't have a size limit on how big an image can be.

Here is a link to the portable PowerISO that is pre-registered and you don't have a size limit or have to pay for anything. http://tr.im/181g or you can use http://yerdenizden.blogspot.com/2008/06/portable-poweriso-41-mlang.html

PowerISO is my program of choice for this too. I doubt he acquired the files via [illegal] torrent, otherwise you'd just expect them to get Magic ISO, etc via the same method

Agree about Daemon Tools. I'd love to see MS buy those guys outright (like they did with SysInternals) and ship Windows 7 with an image-mounter bundled into the OS.

For mounting .iso files, I prefer Alchohal. There are two versions, 52% and 120%; the 52% being free. They also work great for making images. my tablet wouldn't be the same without it.

To be honest, I just use MagicDick for my Image mounting needs,
I find that it doesn't have the bulk of Alcohol 120, doesn't have the not-workfulness of Daemon tools(in my experience) and it reads UIF.
All in 3MB of Ram when idle.
