What's not in Windows 7? Windows Movie Maker, Windows Mail, etc

Microsoft will stop bundling Windows Movie Maker, Windows Mail, and Windows Photo Gallery with the operating system. Those applications will still be available as free downloads, but you won't have them out of the box. Instead they'll be part of the new Windows Live suite of desktop applications which we first looked at in October.
To be honest, it would probably make more sense to keep bundling these applications with Windows. After all, when you install OS X, or most Linux distributions you get a mail application and some sort of photo management software. But Apple and Linux distributors haven't faced the same kind of anti-trust pressures that Microsoft has in the past. While Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player will still be bundled with Windows 7, it's likely that the company is avoiding a whole batch of lawsuits by offering free downloads of other software.

Actually you will. You can do that without installing any software. Just go to your pictures in Windows Explorer and there you see them in Filmstrip or Thumbnails view.
The unbundled software appears to be software that you might not be using in an office environment which would have professional packages like MS Outlook or professional video editing stuff.
However since you might still want the unbundled software and most of them are for online use, you can download them. Better approach in my opinion since I don't use Windows Mail and stuff but still have their icons nestled in the Start menu.

Well, you are right, but i would much rather have a separate application, a basic picture viewer, much like the one on XP but without any editing options, just to see pictures. I don't know if you have seen the picasa photo viewer, but it provides a really fast viewing experience without distracting tools, which is what i'm hoping Windows 7 comes with something like this.

I'm surprised the you guys at Download Squad aren't aware, Microsoft isn't allowed to bundle its software anymore because of competition legislation and the numerous court cases it has lost on the matter.
The reason why Apple isn't targeted!? I can only speak for EU countries here but in Europe you have to have a significant market share before you can violate competition laws. The reason why? If I'm a tiny company with a very uncompetitive approach to business, it makes no sense for me to be sued because I don't affect the market. MS does. Apple tbh does not. They would need to massively increase their market share to even show up on the Commission's radar.

If they could do something that should be painfully obvious like FIX WINDOWS EXPLORER so that it's not a complete pain in the ass to use, I'd be happy.

I've been testing for a couples days. Really impressed. Not so much with the new things, although i do like the little ones like burning disc images and open shortcut location. But w/ the way it seem to be so much liter and lest demanding then vista. Runs a lot smoother on same pc running vista(seperate hd). Think microsoft is headed in the right direction.

Windows Mail, Windows Contact and Windows Calendar are all secondary products. I know, I know, some people actually think they are better than Outlook, but boys (and girls), none of them can be synced to a Windows Mobile device. We are talking about a sync between two Microsoft products! It's a mistake to let that happen. Now, currently, you can't do that with the Windows Live suite neither, but Microsoft doesn't have to offer synchronization to these programs because they can just make a mobile version of the Windows Live suite. Yes, it's not real sync, but to some people it may be better than synchronization because nothing needs to be done to keep the data in sync.

its a good approach in my opinion. Windows is just designed more for business- and most businesses do not need movie maker- which is just terrible in my opinion. i had nothing but trouble with it. it constantly locks up on me!
anyways, Apple's big thing is creating stuff, so its not really competing i guess...
you can't get away from IE... you need it to get firefox o.O

Ok, making the programs only available online is a bad choice by microsoft because there are still people that have dial up and I know that these programs are too big to be downloaded in a timely fashon. What microsoft needs to do is put them on the installer DVD and let users pick what content is installed. That way people can get rid of the programs they dont want and still have the usability they want.
And another thing, why is a 17 year old able to figure this out but THE HEAD OF A COMPANY at microsoft can't!!!
"Hi, I'm a PC, and I WISH I WAS A MAC!!!"

The MS AntiTrust suit wasn't so much about what was bundled with the OS but the way in which OEMs (PC manufacturers) were prevented (by means of compulsary license agreements) from removing the bundled software. They were even prevented from removing the shortcuts from the start menu.
That WAS anti-competitive practice and rightfully opened up the investigation into MSes behaviour (cf. If you buy a Mac from a regular computer store they (the store) are entitled to bundle / unbundle all/any software that Apple installed. The consumer however probably WANTS the Apple software - often not the case with Microsoft apps).

Well the way I see it is that it is Bill's software and all the ANTI-TRUST MOTHERFUCKERS can go FUCK themselfs. Don't buy the software go and get you a peice of SHIT Linux are Apple/Mac!! i used windows 7 for one day ! first thing i was trying to do is importing my e mails from my windows mail into the live mail ! but i couldn't ! maybe i need more time to understand how it should be done ! but its really big mistake to switch this thing !
i mean i am a General Manager in a IT company , and i have been working with windows mail since almost 2 years ! so for me to switch to windows 7 i will have hard time ! as first i have to find a way to take my e mails with me.
Otherwise movie maker i never used it ! all i need is windows mail in windows 7 ! or even a link where i can download windows mail ( not live mail ) which i didn't find on Microsoft site
