Download CrossOver for free today, run Windows Apps on Mac, Linux
CrossOver is the commercial version of WINE, a tool that allows users to run many Windows applications on Mac or Linux machines. And today, you can download it for free.
You see, earlier this year the CEO of CodeWeavers, the company behind CrossOver issued a challenge to president George W. Bush. If the outgoing president of the US could accomplish one of a handful of goals before leaving office, the company would give away free licenses for all of its software (with a limit of one per license per user). Surprisingly, one of those goals has been met: CodeWeavers CEO Jeremy White recently noted that he was able to fill up his tank with $2.79/gallon gasoline.
In order to claim your reward, just visit the CodeWeavers page today to snag a coupon good for one software license. CodeWeavers makes CrossOver for Mac and Linux, and also has a special CrossOver Games version that brings support for a number of popular Windows video games to those applications. While CrossOver won't necessarily let you run every Windows app on your platform of choice, it does boast support for some programs that won't run under the free and open source WINE utility.
CodeWeaver products typically start at $40. So if you think there's even a chance you might want a free copy, today's the day to grab one. Or you can wait until George Bush meets one of the other goals that Jeremy White has set for him, including capturing Osama bin Laden, creating jobs, or bringing average home prices back to the level they were at last year.

The only way Bush had any impact on the price of gas was by adding to the "State of Fear" and creating an "act now" environment.
This is highly deplorable and I would have preferred higher gas prices to the bailout bill that was voted for by both sides.
In any case, I just finished downloading CrossOver Mac Pro and I've got to get it installed before I leave for work. Cheers.

Its useless to give away the software for free for 24 hrs and keeping the website down for that time !!
Have been trying since hours.....

Great offer if you can get it.
After several attempts the site said a serial number had been e-mailed to me. Hours later it still hasn't come through.

Bring house prices up? Create jobs?
For a CEO, he sure is retarded when it comes to business and the economy and the U.S. government's role therein.

A torrent would be much more useful. You still need a license, but it would be great to take the strain off CrossOver's servers.

More useful than a high speed link to the file that doesn't involve using your connection to send it to other users? Not IMO.
Torrents have their usefulness, but I'll nearly always pick a fast "direct" download over one given the choice.
Not to mention the fact that incoming torrent connections will continue for up to 24hrs after you've killed the torrent, and the only way to get out of that is to get a new IP.
If you're an online gamer and latency matters, torrents are the enemy.

Thanks Crossover!
What a nice detail that you released this on my birthday... Oh, you don't know me? Does this have to do with Bill Gates' birthday then?
Tsk, tsk, tsk...

Installed it under Mint Elyssa and it doesn't show up in the menus. Searched the forums... No luck. Too bad.

Any idea is one can run Roboform with CrossOver (MAC)?

I hate to be the one to remind you all of this, but the price of oil fell dramatically, and immediately, as soon as the white house dropped their ban on off-shore drilling. Gas prices are not in any way linked to supply and demand. In fact, supply is only responsible for about 40% of the price of gasoline. The thing to look at is oil speculation. It made all the difference in this.
Knowing that made me about 40 bucks at the water-cooler. I called gas dropping below 3.75 (at that point, the economy hadn't completely tanked), and I was right. On the deadline, September 1st, it was at 3.60, average, in New England.

"Speculation" *is* supply and demand. It's just trading on anticipated supply and demand in the future. The point is, people thought supply was going to be low in the future, so the price went up. Then the ban was lifted, and people thought supply would be higher, so the price (today) went down. Economics isn't as hard as some people make it seem.
